Green hydrogen and ammonia developer Atome Energy expects to complete front-end engineering design (FEED) for its Paraguay project next quarter.
CEO Olivier Mussat provided the update during a presentation for the US$365mn, 145MW Villeta facility which state power company Ande will supply from the country’s 100% hydroelectric grid.
The FEED contractors are Casale and Urbas.
Villeta will produce calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) for regional and international offtake, with annual revenue estimated at US$141mn based on a green CAN price of US$570/t, the executive said.
He added that a final investment decision is expected by year-end as is the selection of the alkaline electrolyzer supplier and EPC contractor.
Villeta’s other stakeholders are Aecom (owner’s engineer), Natixis (financial advisor), NexantECA (market advisor), JGP (environmental consultant) and IDB Invest.
Atome’s Paraguay plans envision a 300MW second phase, dubbed Yguazu. Power purchase agreement (PPA) talks are undeway with Ande following the signing of a pre-PPA.
The company’s early development pipeline in the region includes Costa Rica.
