Alfanar Global Development, a part of Alfanar Projects — a leading global project developer, engineering construction and technology solutions provider, recently hosted Khalid Al-Falih, Saudi minister of investment, at their sustainable aviation fuel facility — Lighthouse Green Fuels — in Teesside, UK. The minister and his accompanying delegates were received by Alfanar Projects’ executive team members including Amer Al-Ajmi, executive vice president; Mishal Al-Mutlaq, chief investment officer; and Noaman Al-Adhami, country head, UK.

“This visit marks a significant milestone in Alfanar’s commitment to positioning Saudi Arabia as a worldwide leader in renewable energy and green fuels, and in advancing global clean energy initiatives,” a statement said.

During the visit, Al-Falih received a comprehensive tour of the SAF facility, engaged in discussions with the Alfanar team regarding strategic objectives, and had the opportunity to witness firsthand the cutting-edge technologies and sstainable practices of the on-site feedstock preparation and processing facility. This experience vividly demonstrated the transformative potential of the project and its contribution to a greener, more sustainable future for the UK and the global energy landscape.

The Lighthouse Green Fuels project has secured UK government funding of more than 13 million pounds ($15.8 million) through Green Fuels, Green Skies and Advanced Fuels Fund initiatives to support the development of SAF facilities in the UK’s race to net-zero. The project is in an advanced stage of development — currently in FEED stage — making it the most advanced SAF facility being developed in the UK. The 1.5-billion-pound facility will bring significant economic benefits to Teesside and attract further investment into the region. Pending parliamentary legislation of the SAF mandate and revenue stability mechanism, which are currently being studied and consulted on, Alfanar Global Development is expecting to reach the finl investment decision by the end of Q1 2025.

Following his visit, Al-Falih took to social media platform X and praised the Lighthouse Green Fuels facility as a source of pride and a symbol of Saudi companies’ impressive progress on the global stage.

“Alfanar Global Development is honored by the distinguished visit of Minister of Investment Khalid Al-Falih, who has generously shown his support and encouragement for our Lighthouse Green Fuels project. This visit serves as a powerful testament to the commitment of our visionary leadership to building a sustainable future not just in Saudi Arabia but globally as well,” said Mishal Al-Mutlaq, chief investment officer of Alfanar Projects.

As a global company with Saudi roots, Alfanar is playing its part in supporting the realization of the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030 through renewable energy and infrastructure projects. Internationally, the company has a global portfolio of 1.75 GW of renewable energy projects across Europe, India, and th Middle East, including wind farms, solar parks, sustainable aviation fuel facility, CCUS technologies, green hydrogen, and green ammonia plants.
