GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Droughts are a scary possibility for farmers all over the world, especially in desert climates so water conservation has been a high priority since the dawn of agriculture. But local farmer and geologist Michael Lobato plans to combine golf course aeration service Dryject’s injection system with biochar to conserve water. Biochar being a material that is practically pure carbon made from organic matter, in this case, pistachio shells.
But that’s not all biochar can do. Its porousness also allows it to soak up carbon emissions, meaning it would not only be helping to conserve water, but it would also conserve our planet’s health as a whole. If the experiment pans out as expected, it could mean big things for farmers and environmentalists, and Dryject franchise owner Mark Shoemaker is excited about where it may take Dryject in the future.
