The current surge in construction and infrastructure development portrays a region unyielding in its pursuit of modernisation, and this is clearly evident from the number of contracts awarded in the last month.

As the calendar pages turned, the construction landscape remains vibrant and dynamic, defying any dull moments as it prepares to welcome the last quarter of 2023.

Some contractors that stood out with their contract wins In July include Estithmar Holding, NPCC, Egis, and McDermott.

1. Meydan Group, SirajPower: The Meydan Hotel
Scope of work: Installation of a 1.2MWp solar rooftop system

The Meydan Group, a leading UAE conglomerate, and SirajPower, the UAE’s leading distributed solar energy provider in the region, have signed a strategic partnership to install a 1.2MWp solar rooftop system at the renowned The Meydan Hotel in Nad Al Sheba, Dubai.

The innovative solar solution will generate 2.1GWh of clean energy annually, which is equivalent to flly charging over 110 million smartphones, and will reduce the hotel’s dependence on non-renewable energy sources.

2. NPCC: ADNOC offshore contract
Scope of work: Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) services.

Value: $219 million

National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) has announced that it has received a letter of award from Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) Offshore for a contract worth AED805 million ($219 million) to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for its pipeline replacement project.

A wholly-owned unit of the National Marine Dredging Company, the NPCC said the scope of work involves the replacement of 125 km of 20′ main oil line (MOL) from Umm Lulu to Zirku Island.

It comes as part of ADNOC’s grand plans to upgrade and expand its oil and gas pipeline infrastructure in Abu Dhabi.

3. Egis: Kuwait Airways Tower
Scope of work: Project Management Consultancy (PC) services

Egis, a leading engineering and operations consultancy, said it has secured a major contract to provide project management consultancy (PMC) services for the execution of the new Kuwait Airways Tower project in Qibla, Kuwait.

The project, which encompasses a 1,416 cu m area, will feature a multi-storey tower spanning 20 to 30 floors, a two-level basement for parking, a podium serving as a multi-purpose hall with a commercial complex on the ground floor and two mezzanine levels, along with additional upper floors.

Through this project, Kuwait Airways Company (KAC) aims to build a state-of-the-art, Leed (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified, multi-purpose tower that adheres to the latest technical and professional standards, optimising functionality and sustainability.

4. Robt Stone: ADNOC Offshore Project
Scope of work: Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services

Robt Stone, one of the leading EPC conractors in UAE, said it has secured a major contract from a unit of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to provide engineering, procurement and construction services for its offshore project in the UAE capital.

The project scope includes EPC of two power skids at Jebel Dhana including modification of various switch gears, additional isolation valves on inlet and outlet connections to small and medium tanks including RGA lightning system for tanks.

It also involves the implementation of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study recommendations for Abu Dhabi Crude Oil Pipeline (ADCOP) line block valve stations, IPS and MOT, said the statement.

5. ACME Group: Green hydrogen and ammonia project in Oman
Value: $488 million

Leading Indian renewable energy company ACME Group said it had raised Rs40 billion ($488 million) in fresh funding from REC, one of the largest green infrastructure financial institutions, for its upcoming green hydrogen and ammoia project at the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Duqm in Oman.

The loan amount will be utilised to kickstart the first phase of the pioneering green hydrogen and green ammonia project, the group said in a statement.

The facility is expected to produce 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually in its starting phase. It will then be expanded to 1.2 metric million tonnes per annum with about 3.5 GW of electrolyser capacity, which will be powered by 5.5 GWp of the solar PV plant.

6. Toyota Tsusho, TotalEnergies, Zahid Group: Saudi Arabia solar power plant
Value: $100 million

Japanese group Toyota Tsusho Corporation has announced that its joint venture with French energy major TotalEnergies Renewables and a unit of Saudi-based Zahid Group has secured a contract from Saudi Power Procurement Company for a 119MW solar power plant in the kingdom.

The $100 million project is being set up by Toyota Tsusho through a joint venture company, Noor Alwadi Renewable nergy Company, in which both the Japanese group and TotalEnergies Renewables each have a 40% stake, while Altaaqa Renewable Energy has the rest of 20%.

The solar plant, which is the first renewable project in Saudi Arabia for Toyota Tsusho group, will be implemented on a build, own, operate model.

7. McDermott: Qatargas’ North Field gas pipeline
Scope of work: EPC services

Value: $750 million to $1.5 billion

McDermott, a leading provider of engineering and construction solutions to the energy sector, has secured a major contract from Qatargas Operating Company for its North Field Production Sustainability (NFPS) Offshore Fuel Gas Pipeline and Subsea Cables Project, COMP1.

As per the deal, which is in the range of $750 million to $1.5 billion, McDermott will be delivering its engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) services for the project.

The COMP1 project is part of the NFPS Offshore Compression Project involving the instllation of new assets in Qatar’s North Field, including compression complexes at seven locations to sustain gas supply to the existing liquefied natural gas (LNG) production trains into the future.

8. Estithmar Holding: Hotels on Al Shura Island, Red Sea

Qatar-based Estithmar Holding has announced that its key Saudi subsidiary, Elegancia Arabia Trading, has secured MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) works package for two 200-key hotel properties on Al Shura Island within The Red Sea destination.

Elegancia Arabia said the contract win for West Hotel 3 and 4 properties comes on top of the three previously announced ones – the Central Hotel project featuring 430 rooms, a 150-key and a 180-key property on the East side of the island.

According to Estithmar, these premium resorts are part of the 11 currently underway on the main hub island of The Red Sea destination.

9. Petrofac Emirates, NPCC, CAT International: Exansion of natural gas pipeline network
Value: $1.34 billion

ADNOC Gas, a top-class integrated gas processing company, has awarded $1.34 billion in contracts to Petrofac Emirates and a consortium of National Petroleum Construction Company and CAT International for the expansion of its natural gas pipeline network.

A unit of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), the company said the work is being implemented under the sales gas pipeline network enhancement (Estidama) programme.

The new pipeline will extend Adnoc Gas’ existing pipeline network from approximately 3,200km to over 3,500km, enabling the transportation of higher volumes of natural gas to customers in the Northern Emirates of the UAE.
