GLENS FALLS | On Thursday, April 20, the Clean Air Action Network of Glens Falls (CAAN) will present a fast-paced documentary about PFAS entitled “The Devil We Know” at the Crandall Library in the upstairs Holden Room. “Variety” reviewer Dennis Harvey called “The Devil We Know” “a riveting tale of long-term irresponsibility and injustice.”

This 2018 investigative documentary film tells the story of how the world found out about PFAS “forever chemicals” and their serious impacts on our health. The film focuses on DuPont’s Teflon factory in Parkersburg, WV, which for decades dumped thousands of pounds of PFOA into the Ohio River, dangerously contaminating the drinking water of tens of thousands of downstream residents. This documentary is a must-watch for anyone concerned about the safety of their drinking water.

This event is sponsored by CAAN’s Stop Saratoga Biochar initiative. The Saratoga Biochar project proposed in the town of Moreau would burn up to 720 tons of downstate New Yor and western New England sewage sludge a day in the absence of oxygen. U.S. sewage sludge contains concerning levels of PFAS “forever chemicals” due to its use in and incidental contamination of thousands of consumer and commercial products, including cookware, cosmetics, apparel, cleaning products and even toilet paper.

The Crandall is located at 251 Glen St. Doors will open at 6 p.m. The 95-minute film starts as 6:30 and will be followed by a community discussion. The event is free and everyone is welcome to attend. RSVP is recommended, as space is limited. Email tracy.caan@gmail.com or call 518-692-8242 with your full name and the number planning to attend.
