Namibia’s government signed a feasibility agreement with Hyphen Hydrogen Energy, a local consortium focused on the development of a green hydrogen production project in the Tsau National Park, which is intended to supply a green ammonia export project at the Port of Lüderitz, in May 2023.

The first phase of the project is expected to produce over 120,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen, converting 2GW of renewable power from a 4,000km2 solar power installation in the Tsau National Park. This is expected to to be converted into approximately 0.7 million tons per annum (mtpa) of green ammonia for export. The first phase of the project is expected to begin production by 2027.
