นักวิจัยจากประเทศออสเตรเลียต่อยอดแนวคิดการผลิตถ่านชีวภาพ หรือ “ไบโอชาร์” (Biochar) ที่ชาวเผ่าแอมะซอนใช้ ในการเปลี่ยนขยะอินทรีย์เป็นองค์ประกอบสำคัญ แบตเตอรี่” คณะนักวิจัยจากมหาวิทยาลัยอาร์เอ็มไอที (RMIT University) ประเทศออสเตรเลีย ได้พัฒนาเทคโนโลยีการผลิตถ่านชีวภาพ หรือ “ไบโอชาร์” (Biochar) ต่อยอดแนวคิดภูมิปัญญาของชาวเผ่าลุ่มแม่น้ำแอมะซอนที่เคยใช้มาเป็นเวลานาน เพื่อรีไซเคิลขยะอินทรีย์ โดยเฉพาะน้ำเสียจากภาคครัวเรือนและอุตสาหกรรมที่อุดมด้วยสารประกอบคาร์บอนในปัจจุบัน ให้กลายเป็นองค์ประกอบที่สำคัญของแบตเตอรี่ เทคโนโลยีของมหาวิทยาลัย RMIT มีชื่อทางการพาณิชย์ว่า “PYROCO” ซึ่งเป็นการเปลี่ยนกากตะกอนน้ำเสีย (Biosolids) ที่เต็มไปด้วยสารประกอบคาร์บอน ให้เป็น Biochar ด้วยกระบวนการแยกสลายด้วยความร้อนสูง (pyrolysis) โดยไม่ใช้ออกซิเจน ซึ่งจะทำให้เกิดการก่อตัวของคาร์บอนที่เสถียรและไม่ปล่อยมลพิษสู่ชั้นบรรยากาศ Biochar นั้นถือเป็นสสารที่มีประโยชน์ หนึ่งเนื่องจากความสามารถในการกักเก็บสารประกอบคาร์บอนลงสู่ดิน มันจึงมีส่วนช่วยในการบรรเทาการปล่อยคาร์บอนสู่ชั้นบรรยากาศ เมื่อนำ Biochar ไปใส่ในดินคล้ากับปุ๋ย ด้วยคุณสมบัติที่มีรูพรุนของมัน ก็จะช่วยในการกักเก็บน้ำและอาหารในดิน ฟื้นฟูดินให้มีความอุดมสมบูรณ์มากขึ้น ดังเช่นที่ชาวพื้นเมืองลุ่มแม่น้ำแอมะซอนใช้วิธีการดังกล่าวมาอย่างน้อย 2,500 ปี ADVERTISEMENT นอกจากนี้มันยังมีประโยชน์ในการผลิตแบตเตอรี่และอุปกรณ์จัดเก็บพลังงานอื่น ๆ โดยเฉพาะส่วนประกอบสำคัญอย่าง อิเล็กโทรดคาร์บอน (Carboh Electrode) ที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นตัวนำไฟฟ้าในแบตเตอรี่ ซึ่งปัจจุบันได้รับการพัฒนาจนมีประสิทธิภาพที่ดีขึ้นเมื่อเปรียบเทียบกับอิเล็กโทรดจากกราไฟท์แบบดั้งเดิม ส่งผลให้ในช่วงไม่กี่ปีที่ผ่านมาได้มีการนํา […]
