12月13日、炭素除去ソリューション・プロバイダーであるカーボンフューチャーは、ボリビアを拠点とするExomad Green Concepciónプロジェクトと共同で、バイオ炭の炭素除去（BCR）クレジットに関するマイクロソフトとの新たなオフテイク契約を発表した。 本契約は、2024年6月までに32,000トン以上のCO2除去クレジットをマイクロソフトに提供するもので、これまでで最大規模のBCR購入契約のひとつとなる。 バイオ炭（生物学的木炭）は、森林残渣、木材、作物廃棄物などのバイオマスを酸素のない状態で加熱することで生成され、安定した形態の炭素を作り出す。土壌に埋めると、土壌肥沃度の向上につながるだけでなく、数世紀にわたる炭素隔離が可能になる。 Exomad Greenの施設は、林業廃棄物をバイオ炭に変換する。本来であれば焼却処分されるはずだったバイオマスを利用することで、本プロジェクトは炭素管理に加え、健康リスクや火災リスクの低減、持続可能な木材管理慣行による森林減少の緩和、バイオ炭による土壌肥沃度の向上による先住民コミュニティの農作業強化などの利益を生み出すことが期待されている。 本合意は、マイクロソフトによる炭素除去に関する一連の発表の最新版であり、2030年までにカーボン・マイナスを達成し、2050年までに過去の排出量をすべて除去するという同社のイニシアチブの一環をなすものである。 【参照ページ】 Carbonfuture Announces Innovative Offtake Collaboration with Exomad Green and Microsoft for Large-Scale Biochar Carbon Removal タグ: BCR, ESG, サステナビリティ, バイオ炭, 炭素除去クレジット
