Goa working on green hydrogen energy plant: CM

PANAJI: In line with the government’s ambitious target to decarbonise all sectors of the economy by 2050, the Goa government is in talks with Paradeep Phosphates, BITS Goa and NIT Goa to develop green hydrogen and green Ammonia plants for energy generation.
Speaking at a workshop on Sustainable Energy and Environmental Solution for MSMEs and the pharmaceutical sector, Sawant said that the Goa government is working on a multi-sectoral plan to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.
“For industries in particular, the government of Goa is in process of adopting, several renewable energy interventions. It includes the energy, Benchmarking for industrial zone R&D and piloting the support to develop innovative energy assistance technologies. energy audits for MSME, driving the transition from fossil based energy sources to clean energy alternatives, and promoting the use of compressed biogas or biomass residue and solar thermal concentrated for industrial heating,” saidSawant.

He also said that the state wants to decarbonise the sectors of tourism, transport, industry, health, agriculture as well as food.
“We are also developing green hydrogen policy, and net zero emission policy for the industries which will soon be adopted. Goa government has initiated the discussion with Paradeep Phosphates for a pilot green hydrogen and green ammonia project. We are also in discussion with BITS and NIT Goa to setup green hydrogen research facility in the state,” said Sawant.
The chief minister also announced that all new power purchase agreements, signed by Goa government will be for renewable energy. “Goa has also signed an MoU to set up the ground mounted and floating solar installation. The government has also decided that 100% renewable electricity supplied will be provided to all demand sectors by 2050,” said Sawant.
He urged all the pharmaceutical companies to implement the recommendation for energy efficiency technlogies.
