Vadodara: Junior commerce and industry minister Som Parkash and Vadodara MP Ranjan Bhatt visited the country’s first hydrogen dispensation station at Gujarat Refinery in the city on Monday. The visit was aimed to assess the performance of the station.The station was established by the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd at its Gujarat refinery and received approval from Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation in 2022. It is designed to meet refuelling requirements of 25 fuel cell electric vehicle buses per day on an eight-hour basis. Each bus has a filling capacity of 20kg of hydrogen at a pressure of 350 bar. Companies producing green energy in the state will receive centives, and facilities such as transmission and distribution charge rebates will be provided. The government aims to achieve 2000 KTPA energy production by 2030. This policy follows the discussion in Uttar Pradesh to implement a similar policy, including the establishment of two centers of excellence for green hydrogen research and innovation. The state plans to become a leader in green hydrogen and ammonia production.Bengal should have green hydrogen policy: MinisterUnion Power Minister RK Singh called for Bengal to develop a comprehensive green hydrogen policy during the launch of the PM Vishwakarma scheme. He also expressed disappointment at the absence of any representation from the Bengal government at the launch event. The Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh governments have also recently announced their own green hydrogen policies. The PM Vishwakarm cheme aims to support traditional artisans and craftsmen.IIT-Madras to work on R&D of ‘Green Hydrogen’IIT Madras is collaborating with industries to conduct research and development in ‘Green Hydrogen’ and establish testing/validation standards. This partnership is part of the ‘Hydrogen Valley Innovation Cluster in Tamil Nadu’ initiative, which includes around 30 companies involved in the hydrogen sector. IIT-M will focus on the entire value chain of hydrogen, aiming to make green hydrogen more affordable and scalable. Tamil Nadu Industries Minister, TRB Rajaa, has expressed support for this initiative, stating that it will contribute to further improving the state’s green energy production.
