Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hy2gen Deutschland regarding the use of e-methanol as a fuel for vessels operating in the Atlantic region.

Hy2gen Deutschland is planning to produce e-methanol in a project in Lower Saxony, Germany, starting in 2028. The e-methanol will be manufactured by synthesising green carbon dioxide and hydrogen produced by using renewable energy.

Hy2gen Deutschland is a subsidiary of the Wiesbaden-based Hy2gen AG group, which develops, finances, builds and operates plants for the production of renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs) worldwide.

As previously reported, in February last year, the Hy2gen AG group also announced plans to produce green ammonia as a fuel for the maritime sector, in the municipality of Sauda, on the southwestern coast of Norway.
