Brazil’s Ceara state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with local solar company GoVerde Energia and its majority owner Apollo Asset aimed at the production of solar energy and green ammonia at the port of Pecem.
The initiative has an expected investment of BRL 3 billion (USD 597.6m/EUR 562m) and will consist of three phases – solar photovoltaic (PV) generation, energy transmission and green ammonia production.

The state government said the project will be implemented in the state’s Pecem Industrial and Port Complex (CIPP), which the government plans to turn into a green hydrogen hub.
GoVerde’s New Business Director, Ricardo Junqueira estimates that the planned facility will be capable of producing 40 tonnes per day of green ammonia in the first phase of the project, with another 250 tonnes in the second and another 200 tonnes in the third phase.
At present, the Ceara government has sgned 33 MoUs related to green hydrogen production with national and foreign companies, indicating a total investment of more than USD 30 billion (EUR 28.2bn). Overall, the Port of Pecem is projected to have an installed capacity of 6 GW of green hydrogen by 2034.
