NGEL plans to add 8 GW pumped storage projects

NTPC Green Energy (NGEL) plans to establish 8 GW pumped storage projects (PSP) at five locations in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The Andhra Pradesh government has signed an agreement with NGEL for four PSPs with a combined storage capacity of 6.6 GW, which comprise large-scale energy storage stations.

The company is also pursuing a project of 1.5 GW PSP in Karnataka, for which it is seeking state support.

PSPs supplement the renewable energy sector, which witnesses sudden wind variations, and boast of the technology to store large-scale electricity. are commercially-viable.

Additionally, NGEL is developing a hydrogen ecosystem park at Pudimadaka in Anakapalli district of Andhra Pradesh on a 1,200 acre coastal land. entailing an investment of Rs 1.1 trillion, the entire project is expected to be completed by 2030. It is based on the SEZ concept with manufacturers of green hydrogen, ammonia and new energy technologies like electrolysers, batteries, solar modules and related segmets.

NGEL is also planning a 20 GW renewable energy facility (solar and wind combination) in the state.
