In accordance with reports, Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Limited (TSSEZL) and ACME Group have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish Odisha’s inaugural green hydrogen and green ammonia project within the Gopalpur Industrial Park, located in Odisha.
According to an official source, this initiative will result in the creation of the largest single-location green hydrogen and its derivatives manufacturing facility in the entire country.
As per the terms outlined in the MoU, the ACME Group is set to procure 343 acres of land situated within TSSEZL’s Gopalpur Industrial Park, situated in the Ganjam district of Odisha. This land acquisition will pave the way for the establishment of the manufacturing unit, which will be realized in phases and will require an investment of Rs 27,000 crore. The initial investment in the project is projected to be approximately Rs 5,000 crore, as confirmed by a company representative.
ACME Group’s strategic plan includes the setu of a nearly 1.3 million metric tons per annum (MTPA) green ammonia production facility within the Gopalpur Industrial Park.
The project is poised to be a significant advancement within the realm of green hydrogen production in India, offering both economic and environmental implications. It aligns with the broader global movement towards sustainable energy solutions and showcases the collaboration between industry leaders to drive such initiatives forward.
“We have planned to make Odisha the hub in production of green hydrogen and green ammonia and a leader state in green fuel economy. The state government is firmly committed to green energy, recognizing it as the fulcrum of our future. To catalyse this vision, we’re offering best-in-class incentives. Our progressive policy is a testament to our dedication towards a sustainable and prosperous future,” said Odisha’s industries secretary Hemant Sharma on the occasion.
As reported, the production of green ammonia is scheduled to take lace using green hydrogen, with the manufacturing operations being fueled by renewable power sources. The resulting green ammonia, produced within this facility, is intended for export to both Western and Eastern markets. The existing Gopalpur port, conveniently situated adjacent to the industrial park, will serve as the conduit for exporting the produced green ammonia.
