One of the companies has offered to ship one lakh tonnes of green ammonia to Germany from the Adani port in Vizhinjam. To fulfill the energy requirements of the green ammonia plant round-the-clock, the company has devised an integrated renewable energy project. This pioneering initiative includes a 1,200-MW solar installation coupled with a 1,500 MW/12,000 MWh closed-loop pumped hydro storage facility within the state. This combination will not only power the ammonia plant but also provide flexibility to support the peak hour needs of Kerala’s state power utilities. The Kerala State Electricity Board has shown interest in investing in the pumped-storage power plant t meet state policy guidelines. The green ammonia production facility is expected to have an annual capacity of 2,00,000 tonnes and a proposed investment of Rs 22,061 crore.
