Rescue squad claims 2023 title

he Rotary Club of Floyd hosted its annual Chili Cook Off to raise funds for Floyd County Volunteer Fire Department Station 1 and the Floyd County Lifesaving and First Aid Squad late-October.

More than $12,000 was raised at Warren G. Lineberry Park on Oct. 28. The event was originally scheduled to be on Oct. 14 and was postponed due to weather.

The Lifesaving and First Aid Squad was named the winner by judges Eric Branscom (Floyd Commonwealth’s Attorney), Linda and George Millsaps (County Administrator and husband), Grayson Rudd (Cocoa Mia), and Bruce Turner (Floyd Town Council).

Organizers said 100% of the cook-off’s proceeds benefit the first responder teams 50/50.

Floyd businesses that made the 2023 event possible include Clark Gas and Oil, Tendergrass, Providence Real Estate, BonVue Wealth Management, Buffalo Mountain Ziplines, Buffalo Mountain Brewery, Cocoa Mia, Mountainside Holistic Clinic, G.J. Ingram and Sons, C.W. Harman and Son, Wills Ridge Supply, Thomas and Wall Real Etate, Floyd EcoVillage, Hotel Floyd, Southwest Virginia Biochar, The Schroeder Law Firm, Wall Residences, The June Bug Center, Floyd Virginia Farm Bureau, Skyline National Bank, Atlantic Union Bank, Floyd Express Mart, Food Lion, Finn Graphics, Edward Jones of Floyd, and Floyd Vision Center.
