Rational design of MoS2 nanoflowers grafted highly porous functionalized woody pulp-derived biochar for sustainable energy storage devices

In this study, a simple hydrothermal approach is employed for the rational manufacturing of MoS2 nanoflowers (MoS2-NFs) grafted onto highly porous functionalized woody pulp-derived biochar (f-WPB) for use in supercapacitors (SCs). Investigations are conducted into the produced materials’ morphological, textural, physicochemical surface, and electrochemical performance. The MoS2-NFs are uniformly grown on the f-WPB and subsequently […]

Functionalized polyethyleneimine grafted magnetic biochar for facilitating in-situ CO2 conversion to improve methane production in thermophilic anaerobic digestion

Redundant CO2 produced during wet anaerobic digestion (AD) needs proper in-situ minimization, in which the amino groups in polyethyleneimine (PEI) can react with CO2 to form bicarbonate by diffusing into the liquid phase. Hence, the addition of PEI-grafted material may provide a novel way to in-situ supplement bicarbonate in the AD system, which could further […]

Enhanced anaerobic degradation of highly-concentrated phenolic wastewater by novel system of microcurrent-coupled magnetic layered double hydride biochar

This report presents a novel system combining microcurrent-coupled magnetic layered double hydroxide and biochar to enhance the anaerobic degradation performance of highly-concentrated phenolic wastewater. The coupled system achieves removal efficiencies for COD and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP) of 71.1 % and 75.40 %, respectively, which are 2.25 and 2.50 times higher than those achieved by raw sludge. […]

Fates of the components in cotton stalk during the hydrothermal oxidative pretreatment and its relationship with the upgrading of biochar pellets and wood vinegar

In the present study, biochar pellets and wood vinegar are prepared from the cotton stalk (CS) through the densification and pyrolysis, and hydrothermal oxidative (HO) pretreatment (160-260 degrees C) is conducted to CS to upgrade the quality of biochar pellet and wood vinegar (WV). The results show that HO pretreatment can decompose the hemicellulose, amorphous […]

Magnetic chicken bone biochar mediated anaerobic co-digestion of lignocellulosic biomass for energy enhancement and microbial synergism

This study showed the effects of prepared chicken bone-derived biochar (CB) and magnetic chicken bone-derived biochar (MCB) at various ratio (2-12 g/L) on anaerobic co-digestion (AcoD) of corn straw (CS) and cow dung (CD). The physiochemical characterization of CB, MCB, and lignocellulosic biomass (including CS and CD) was analyzed. Biogas production, kinetics, total solid (TS), […]
